Our Team

  • Kristofer Sommerfeld | Owner

Kristofer Sommerfeld is the founder/owner of Kristofer Sommerfeld Productions.

His journey began at the age of 5 when he saw his first puppet ministry. At the age of 11 he joined a puppet ministry and also made his first puppet.

Kristofer attended his first Fellowship of Christian Puppeteer’s conference at the age of 12, where he met Dale VonSeggen - founder/owner of One Way Street, INC. As a mentor, Dale encouraged Kristofer and provided learning and teaching opportunities until his passing in 2019.

2006: Kristofer met Dave and June Privett who became role models to the aspiring puppeteer and puppet builder. He learned how to make more professional puppets from Dave’s puppet building DVDs.

2012: Kristofer met Kevin Clash, former puppeteer of Elmo. Clash was impressed with his skills and invited him to tour the Jim Henson Company workshop in Long Island City, NY and to visit the set of “Sesame Street” at Kauffman Astoria Studios.

He was nominated by June Privett and elected Vice President of the Fellowship of Christian Puppeteers.

2013: Kristofer founded his company, Kristofer Sommerfeld Productions.

2015: Kristofer launched the brand Puppedcation™.

2017: Kristofer was elected President of the Fellowship of Christian Puppeteers.

2018: Kristofer acquired PlaySoup from Dave Privett.

2020: Kristofer expanded his variety of products by purchasing the Creative Arts Store from his friends, Trent and Jessica Black. This added gospel illusions, clowning resources, and additional lines of puppets to his company.

2022: Kristofer obtained a majority of the assets of Creative Ministries Solutions; formerly One Way Street, INC.

2023: Kristofer launched One Way Squared in honor of Dale & Liz VonSeggen and KJ Schmidt.

Kristofer is a respected puppeteer and builder in the field of creative arts ministry. He continues to teach at regional and national conferences. The investments in his life by those he admired are evident in each of these areas.

Kristofer’s goal is to direct his family’s ministry, Evergreen Kids, to new heights reaching children and families with the power and love of Jesus Christ.

When he’s not working, Kristofer enjoys traveling with his wife, Amanda. Several people have compared him to Walt Disney…and he is OK with that.

  • Amanda Sommerfeld | Builder | Order Manager

Efficiency and simplicity are two of Amanda’s strongest attributes. She has been involved with Kristofer Sommerfeld Productions since its birth in 2013. Her main projects are making the Puppedcation people puppets, manufacturing the stages and sewing miles of black curtain fabric.

When Amanda is not working at the shop, she enjoys working as a housekeeper and her most recent job of being a home education evaluator.

In her free time she enjoys being in nature, exploring museums in DC, or spending time with friends.

  • Kristyn Nilson | Social Media | Builders Assistant

Kristyn Nilson has been working with Kristofer Sommerfeld Productions since the beginning in 2013. She is a builders assistant, photographer, in charge of social media and basically does whatever the "boss" (who happens to be her little brother) needs done.

She has 25 years of experience in puppetry and children's ministry and is a member of Evergreen Kids. Kristyn loves music and has a gift of using sign language as praise and worship. She excels at incorporating emotional expression into her interpretive movement and signing. She is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Puppeteers. Chick-fil-A, puzzles, Disney and her husband, Chris, are among her favorite things.

  • Laura Howell | Builder | Assistant

Laura joined the team in 2018 as an intern and just never left. She began her career as the primary Hubie Toobie builder, which to this day is her favorite puppet to work on. Since then she has adopted a variety of other roles, including taking on more puppet builds, creating set designs, and acting as the chief graphic designer, a job she grudgingly tolerates.

A peek into her workroom will often show her hovering at her table, listening to music while obsessing over hand-stitching or seam plucking, likely covered in a fine coating of neon fuzz or faux fur.

When she's not at work, which is rare, she enjoys reading copious amounts of books, writing stories, and getting her hands messy in other mediums of art such as painting, sculpting, and charcoal.

  • Dave Privett | Contract Builder

Dave Privett is a master puppeteer and designer from Tennessee and has been in the industry for 40 years. He’s a two-time Emmy award winning designer and his clients include Baby Einstein/The Walt Disney Company, Universal Studios/Hollywood, "BabyFaith"/Integrity Publishing, the International Network of Children's Ministries, and Empowering Kids, just to name a few.

He was a founding member of Animax Designs in Nashville, Tennessee. His projects included Christmas specials for WSMV, where he played a penguin character named “Snowbird” which soared to popularity in the 80s and 90s.

Currently, Dave works as a contract builder/puppeteer as needed at Kristofer Sommerfeld Productions and continues making custom puppets for his own clients.

You can check out some of his simpler designs at his Etsy store or some more custom commissions on his Pinterest and instagram pages (all are "DMPCreative").

Dave is also a member of a band called The Inferno Kats based in Nashville, TN.

  • Melissa Knuckles | Contract Builder

Melissa has worked for One Way Street, and Creative Ministry Solutions in the past, and is very excited about the direction One Way Squared is headed. She has a deep love for puppetry and has made over 1000 Stretch-a-Bellies in her lifetime and continues making many more for One Way Squared from her MI office. She also loves traveling out to the main offices whenever she can.

When she’s at home she enjoys spending time with her two children and wonderful husband. She loves making all kinds of crafts and creative things. She enjoys sewing and using her Cricut.

Creative ministries has defined who she is, brought her husband into her life, and taken her all over the world. Her happiest place is being with friends, creating new ideas and ways to creatively share God’s message.

  • Denny Sommerfeld | Business Adviser

Denny is our Business Consultant… he’s our go-to advisor for “legal stuff” and other business dealings. (Who enjoys all that anyway?!?) He spent 25+ years working in the Supply Chain Management field and holds an Associate Degree in Business Administration. Denny enjoys challenge, teamwork, mentoring, and working with the creative staff at KSP. He’s especially excited to support the continued growth of KSP and, most importantly, indirectly support the customer (our most valued asset!). Since Denny is also a “hands-on” type person he enjoys the occasional break from business duties to employ his woodworking skills to build background sets used in filming projects and the occasional new workbench or shelving project needed by the staff.

When not working you can find him spending a lot of time with his lovely wife Kendra (who is his greatest inspiration and support). Denny also enjoys outdoors sports such as fishing & hunting, collecting stamps, playing guitar, as well as spending quality time with God, family , and friends.

  • Kendra Sommerfeld | Honorary Volunteer | Candy Replenisher

Kendra Sommerfeld is our volunteer decorator, organizer, filler of the candy bowl, comes running when the boss says “I need help”, talks us down from the ledge, and most importantly offers spiritual guidance and prayer.

She’s been involved with children’s ministry for over 35 years. Kendra is the writer and creative consultant for Evergreen Kids. She is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Puppeteers. Reading, being creative and spending time with her husband are her happy place.

  • Tora | Office Mascot | Security

Tora is a twice rescued senior pup and enjoys going to the office every day with her pack.

Her responsibilities include napping in various areas of the office in one of her three beds, emotionally supporting the staff by requiring pats in order for them to pass in the hallway, and ensuring human health and well-being by demanding occasional outside time. Tora most looks forward to visiting the office neighbor for a pat and a cookie!

When she is not working, she enjoys long, exploratory walks at the park. Her greatest pet-peeves are yappy dogs, energetic dogs, and other dogs in general just annoy her. She has single-pawedly outlawed gum chewing and plastic bottle crunching at the office. She runs a tight ship and keeps everyone to her daily schedule.
